Blizzard dropped the new patch Tuesday. As usual there were two delays before it actually came crawling on line.
People that had been having frame rates in the 30-40 range were literally crawling at 2 fps.
All classes had the new 41 point (at level 85) talent trees dropped. Some of the classes had major changes.
Blizzard said Hunters were complaining about running out of mana too fast. Blizz put them on focus with a max of 100. Now the hunters run out MUCH FASTER than before. Hunters lost the only AOE the had, volley, which was very useful in Ice Crown Citadel in the big pulls. Now they have to single target everything and run out of focus on every target after the first shots in the "rotation". DPS has been cut in half for hunters. This may not seem important unless one knows that 43% of ALL characters first created in World of Warcraft, alliance or horde are hunters. For those that do not know, there are Paladins, Druids, Shamans, Mages, Warlocks, Priests, Warriors, Rogues, and Death Knights to choose from. That is a total of 10 possible classes. That means that about 6% of the rest are spread in the other classes when someone starts. Hunters are not a happy bunch.
All tanks were struck in this patch. They can no longer "hold aggro" (keep the attention of the monsters).
Warriors are saying that they are having to "charge" every 8 seconds. Other players must be very careful NOT to do a lot of damage because the monsters can (and will) one shot kill them if they are distracted from the tank. (At least the hunters no longer have this worry...).
The cooldown for the runes for Death Knights have now be put on consecutive instead of parallel. One has to finish before another starts. This means the DK does not do as much damage. Less damage means loss of aggro. (See above).
I have a couple of friends that are VERY good Paladin tanks. For the first time in YEARS, they lost aggro in lower level content.
Shaman healers got more powerful. Their new low mana cost heals are fast and efficient. They (mine included) toss out a few heals but get back to full mana before needing to heal again.
Druids got a similar boost. Mana pools increased almost 50 percent. Some minor changes to how heals work are not causing trouble.
So far, this patch has taken the fun out of the game. One of the Blizzard people supposedly laughed on a blog about how they intended to make tanking hard.
Typical of a lot of programmers they lose sight of the fact that they really work for the people that pay for the subscriptions NOT Blizzard. If they take the FUN out of the game, people WILL stop playing. So far I know at least half a dozen (me included) who have cancelled subscriptions. I also know several veteran players that consider the game to be unplayable at present. They are taking a long look before making a final decision.
