Neither DeSantis nor City Manager Brad Hudson, who hired DeSantis in mid-2005, explained the reason for the move. Hudson announced the change in an e-mail but said he can't discuss details because it is a personnel issue.

It follows six months of turmoil for city officials that included several abrupt top-level retirements at the Police Department, an area DeSantis directly oversaw, and revelations about his purchase of a police gun and use of untraceable license plates.

Dr Know

The "retirements" in the Police Department came after this guy orchestrated a coverup when the "former" Chief of Police wrecked a city car while driving drunk. He was NOT subjected to field sobriety tests, he was NOT taken for blood alcohol determination. He WAS just driven home by the cops who found him with the wrecked car which he had driven 3 miles after wrecking until it would not drive any more.
