Teenagers who take acetaminophen — one of world's most popular painkillers — even once a month may be at double the risk for asthma, new research suggests.

Even yearly use of acetaminophen may increase asthma risk by 50 per cent compared to teens who never use the drug, according to the investigators.

Evidence is accumulating that the widespread use of acetaminophen over the past 30 years may be one of the drivers of rising asthma rates worldwide, according to the research.

Acetaminophen (Peracetin in UK) became "popular" when aspirin was determined to have severe problems. The drug companies were happy to have a product that could not be obtained in nature. White Willow bark has natural aspirin in it and a tea was used for centuries by healers for pain relief.

Until I see a study done over a range of years and a definite cause and effect relationship is shown, empirically of course, I will be taking this with at least a teaspoon of salt.

Sometimes I feel that adverse reactions/outcomes from using OTC medications like acetaminophen come from overuse rather than the drug itself. Americans tend to subscribe to the notion that if a little works good then a lot ought to work GREAT!

Americans have a great aversion to any discomfort in their lives.

There is a great "fever phobia". Fever is a natural defense mechanism against infections. Lowering it prematurely can prolong or worsen infections.
